This bag was made by The Women’s Skills Development Organization, which is a Fair Trade organization formed over 40 years ago by a group of Nepalese women. It has been working as a non-profit organization and income-generating program for economically disadvantaged, disabled, abused, widowed, divorced, single and outcast women from rural Nepal. The organization ensures that its production processes minimize environmental impact by using local raw materials, 100% cotton and eco-friendly dyes.

In four branches, they boil and wash the cotton, dye it (where possible with natural products like tea, iron, copper, persimmon, aluminum, pomegranate and Nepalese hops) and wash it again. After sun- drying it is balled and loomed, before it is ready for weaving. The woven textiles are designed, drafted, cut and sewn into beautiful bags.
